Starting from Monday October 23, will be re-activated at MILE Primary and Middle School the school service “AscoltaMI“. This “Sportello”, launched in collaboration with the LabTalento University of Pavia, has been realized to provide a point of listening, information and advice aimed at improving our school life’s quality. The Sportello, held on a weekly basis, will be up for the families, students, and teachers and will be held by a psychologist specialized in developmental psychology and education.
Despite the school site has been established in our country several years ago (Art. 106 of the Law of 26 June 1990 n. 162, art. 26, para 1), not many schools offer this service, yet . The ultimate goal is to promote the well-being within the school context and to support students in their development tasks, specific to each study cycle. Specifically, over the years of primary school, students are asked to deal with certain developmental tasks, which mainly concern the scope of learning. Fall in the first acquisition of reading and writing and computational skills, and assimilation of those rules strictly related to “feel good in a group.” They are instead part of the second sphere socializing with peers, sharing space and the establishment of relationships, often significant from an emotional point of view, with new reference adults.
Compared to this stage of development, the school psychologist can be a valid interlocutor, for example, in cases where a pupil presents difficulties in learning and/or fitting in within the peer group; posters problematic behavior type is internalizing (anxiety, social withdrawal, somatic complaints) and externalizing (aggressive behavior or rules) transgression; or find it difficult to maintain adequate levels of attention and concentration.
In the years of the Secondary School, the students have the task to deal with the physiological and bodily changes typical of adolescence, to feel part of a peer group, to build significant emotional ties and dealing with the first approaches to sexuality.
At this stage of development, juveniles may be confused and in trouble in structuring an integrated and coherent image, taking together the messages received from the different contexts (school, family and peer group) and may have difficulty in building their own personality. In addition, the gradual emergence of logical-abstractive capacity while it allows the student to better understand the value-systems of reference, the other can lead the adolescent to take a more critical view of the rules.
At school, boys may also have little motivation to study or be confused about which subsequent studies undertaken. In both sets of studies, the school psychologist can help parents and teachers, and eventually, the student himself, to read and interpret the data received on diagnoses, evidencing the presence in the teenager of difficulties or disturbances level of cognitive and/or social-emotional. The psychologist can also offer their professional support in cases of aggression among peers, of conflict in the teacher-student relationship and facilitate the school-family partnership. In general, the school psychologist turns out to be a figure of fundamental importance in order to support the child and the adolescent in the progressive construction of a personal sense of competence, efficiency, and self-awareness that will help him in the subsequent development phases.
The tasks of the school psychologist will generally refer to information, prevention, support, and advice, addressed to all members of the school – students, parents and teachers – in compliance with privacy protection. The specialist may also carry out activities in the classes, participate in the organization of teaching activities and create networks of collaboration with agencies/professionals working in the territory.
The service is offered free of charge by MILE School and aims to effectively promote the attainment of the educational objectives and guidance, carry out information activities and provide support and advice for individual problems, relational and/or school, in order to promote well-being, both individual and the group-class. Specifically, the school psychologist plays a mediating role, while respecting the roles and skills available within the school context, it is proposed not so much of “outside” solve critical situations that may be more or less present in school life, how to promote the activation of resources, both individual, or a group, already present in the environment,
The access to the AscoltaMI “Sportello” service will be made individually, in small groups or larger groups (teachers, meetings with parents and/or students) through e-mail booking.
