On the 20th September, Mile School’s Grade 2 classes went to “Picchi” winery (in Casteggio) for the grape harvest.
The children were given the task to pick the grapes in the vineyard and put them away in the appropriate baskets.
The collection was hard but exciting!
At the end of the gathering, the boxes were brought inside the winery and the grapes were placed inside the destemmer/crushing machine while the children were being explained the machine functions and how the grapes were being “transformed”.
The children were finally able to taste the grape juice (grape must) thus obtained, before the long process of fermentation and transformation into wine begun.
The grape harvest has been a very interesting and fun experience for all of us.
