Through our Bilingual Primary curriculum, students gain key skills in maths, reading, science, culture and languages, preparing them for an international future.
Exploring the world through words
Through the study of Italian, students develop oral and written communication skills, enhancing their ability to express themselves and understand others.
The programme includes learning reading, writing, grammar and text comprehension. Particular attention is given to expanding vocabulary and producing narrative, descriptive and argumentative texts.
By studying Italian, students strengthen their linguistic awareness and critical thinking skills.
Developing logical reasoning
Mathematics teaching in Primary School is designed to stimulate curiosity, critical thinking and the ability to solve problems creatively.
Students are guided to explore numbers, operations, geometry, measurement, statistics and probability through practical, collaborative and engaging activities.
In this way, mathematics becomes a tool for understanding the world around them, promoting a solid and lasting grasp of fundamental concepts.
Learning through experimentation
Students explore the world around them with curiosity. Through engaging hands-on activities, they deepen their understanding of topics such as living beings, matter, forces, energy, the Earth and space.
The aim is to develop solid foundational knowledge and scientific inquiry skills, encouraging the ability to observe, ask questions, form hypotheses and interpret natural phenomena.
This approach promotes critical thinking and nurtures a passion for discovery, helping students gain a better understanding of how nature works.
Telling stories through sound
In Music lessons, students explore rhythm, melody and harmony by singing, playing instruments, composing and studying music theory.
The programme fosters creativity, cultural appreciation and performance skills, inspiring a lifelong love of music.
All students take part in the Winter Show, while pupils in Years 3 to 5 also learn to play the ukulele, showcasing their talent and understanding of the fundamentals of music.
Developing digital literacyIn Information and Communication Technology (ICT) lessons, students develop digital literacy, gaining the skills to use technology responsibly, creatively, and with confidence. Once familiar with ICT, they can apply these abilities across all areas of their learning.
Promoting physical wellbeing
Physical education activities help students improve coordination, stamina and team spirit, while teaching values such as fair play and personal development.
Lessons take place both at school, at Canottieri Milano, and at the IRIS Sports Centre, with additional activities such as rowing, yoga, and fencing.
Sports Day is the highlight of the year, celebrating community spirit and healthy competition.
Expressing the self freely
During art lessons inspired by Bruno Munari, students explore different materials and techniques through play and experimentation. This experience nurtures their creativity, sensory awareness and visual storytelling.
The course encourages problem-solving, self-expression and the discovery of a personal artistic style, while also celebrating global artistic traditions.
Communicating with the world
Through an integrated approach that strengthens reading, writing, speaking and listening, students gain confidence in communicating in English.
From Year 1 to Year 3, they learn phonics and grammar with targeted support for reading. From this stage, they also use MyOn to improve fluency and text comprehension.
Students explore a variety of texts and literary genres, fostering creativity, collaboration and critical thinking, essential for lasting literacy and success in everyday life.
Develop Logical Thinking
By integrating the Italian approach to mathematics, our students develop reasoning, logical thinking and problem-solving skills that will stay with them for life.
They explore core concepts such as numbers, geometry, measurement, statistics and probability, learning to collaborate, reflect and investigate. In doing so, they consolidate their understanding and apply mathematical thinking to real-life situations.
In Science lessons, students in our Primary School explore living things, matter, forces, energy and planetary systems, developing key skills such as investigation, modelling and practical inquiry.
Through six areas of specialisation - Thinking and Working Scientifically, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Earth and Space and Science in Context - they develop scientific understanding, critical thinking and a lifelong curiosity about how the world works.
Exploring global communities
Rooted in the Cambridge Primary curriculum and ILOS’s ISP Changemakers, Humanities integrates history, geography and social studies with a strong focus on global citizenship and wellbeing.
Students in our Bilingual Primary School explore cultures, human experiences and environments, developing inquiry skills, empathy and ethical awareness while building a sense of identity, responsibility and their place in an interconnected world.
